The Road from Xi'an: Why Every Anbaréa Scent Is a Place

For most of recorded history, scent traveled. Frankincense moved north out of Oman by camel. Damask rose crossed Persia. Sandalwood sailed from the Malabar coast, and later, vanilla crossed oceans from Veracruz. The trade roads that carried silk and spice carried perfume's raw materials too, and the cities along them became the crossroads where those materials met.

Anbaréa is built on that map. Instead of inventing moods, we chose places: every fragrance in our catalog is tied to a real city on the old trade routes, released in numbered chapters as the road moves west. Chapter I begins where the road itself began, at the eastern gate of Xi'an, the terminus of the Silk Road. Its fragrance is Pear Verdant, a green extrait built around orchard fruit and the trees that shade a caravan's first miles.

More than storytelling

The chapter system is also how we work. One scent at a time, hand-poured in limited batches, each given its own release rather than launched as part of a faceless lineup. When a batch sells out, the road pauses until the next pour.

Chapter II turns toward warmer territory as the season cools. The map is long, and we intend to travel all of it.
